Hello everyone!
My name is Paul (though you can feel free to refer to me as Coach Paul, if you prefer!), creator of the Youth Coaching Tips website and experience.
As a proud father of four children; 2 boys and 2 girls, I have had the immense privilege of coaching each one of them, in their respective sports. I began my coaching of them, as they entered into the 5th grade and continued through 8th grade.
Sports in my childhood…
As far back as the 2nd grade, I took part in sports. Soccer, track & field, baseball and football were all a part of my sports repertoire and I was immensely good at them. I had a knack for being physically gifted at an early age and I was able to utilize those physical gifts as I took part in middle school sports and advanced into high school sports. It was an easy transition.
Though I was good at these things, I did not receive the emotional and mental support from my dad, that would have allowed me to develop into an even stronger athlete in all phases. Conversely, my mom was ever-present, as she took it upon herself to transport me to practices and games, no matter what the sport was at the time. She always cheered me on and was always ready to don her “mama bear” cape when I would get hurt or banged up, through no fault of my own. I could always depend on her, to have my back and give me encouragement. However, what was missing (and it was a big part) was my dad.
Why do I want to help?
I have a strong desire to share with others, my joys of coaching young people. When I say “others” I am specifically referring to fellow parents whose children love to play sports. If you as a parent, have apprehensions or misgivings about being an official coach for your child, in their respective sport, I want to help belay those fears.
It can be a bit daunting to be in a position to coach a team of youngsters (with perhaps your own child(ren) being a part of the team as well), as they look to YOU as their wellspring of knowledge to help them be better all-around players in their sport. I believe that my many years of experience being a little league coach, can impart some valuable knowledge to you, to allow you to be the best coach that you can be!
What is my goal here?
Ultimately, I have the desire to help you begin your little league coaching “career”, with as much confidence that you can muster. Additionally, if you have been coaching for quite some time and you feel burnt out and you are experiencing a lack of fire and drive, then perhaps I might be able to enlighten you to something that you might be overlooking, that can recreate that spark necessary to be the awesome coach that you once were. It is never too late!
Feel free to contact me if you want to share any coaching methods that have been useful to you. Definitely share any coaching frustrations that may be struggling with as well. We just might be able to put our brains together and figure out a solution for those frustrations. If not, then you can leave me a “Hi!” in the Comments. I like it when people say “Hi!”. Thank you for taking the time out, to learn a little bit about me!
All My Best,
Coach Paul
